A little background - The Brooklyn Flea is a two day event (Saturday's are historically the largest of the two days and located in a park in Brooklyn - don't ask, i don't know).... Sunday's is smaller and located at the East River Park in Williamsburg (which is a part of Brooklyn). We ventured over on the L train and walked down.
From a creditable source, we were told we had to try the donuts at Dough at the Flea - so this was the first place we ventured!
Now I have to admit, I love a good donut and Dough did not disappoint. They were airy, light, fluffy, and delicious!
As we wandered around the Flea, we enjoyed viewing the antiques and collectables then ventured around East River Park and took in the view.
We had heard that you could walk over the Williamsburg Bridge and back into the city, so we decided to start the trek. How far could it be, we thought (or at least that's what I thought).
Let's just say that the Williamsburg Bridge isn't similar to the Brooklyn Bridge in terms of tourist trap, but it's a pretty cool bridge to cross. It's mostly runners, bikers, and people enjoying the outdoors and the ease of getting to and from Manhattan to Brooklyn without having to utilize the L train.
So we walked across and ended a few streets south of Hudson so decided to start our walk back up to our North Star (ie, Empire State Building).
In route up, we decided to venture over to see the Pride Parade:
Given that Gay Marriage had passed in NY just a few days prior to the event, it was an amazing parade to see this year. Happiness and Excitement filled the streets of Manhattan!!! Love was in the air!!!
We continued our venture up the parade route in route home and eventually after 3 hours, 2 donuts, 2 steamed buns, a jamba juice, Bleekers Mac & Cheese, and a bright sunny day, we made it home from brooklyn by foot. Our longest walk in NY yet at a total of 6 miles for the day...
Let's just say we were a bit exhausted by the end of it.....
That Pride Parade must have been awesome! I was wondering if you guys were going to be able to make it... Keep up the awesome adventures! I love to read about them!
